Asasination Attempt for Obama? WTH

Obama: Packages headed to Chicago had explosive materials

|

Two suspicious packages bound for Chicago "places of Jewish worship" contained explosive materials, President Barack Obama said at a news conference this afternoon.

He called the incidents a "credible terrorist threat against our country."

One package was intercepted in England on a flight from Yemen. It was described as a "manipulated" toner cartridge with wires and circuitry attached, officials said. The other was intercepted in Dubai.

Both packages were sent from Yemen. Officials wouldn't identify where they were headed, except to say neither was addressed to the synagogue across the street from Obama's home in Kenwood. The White House said the president planned to attend a rally as planned in Chicago Saturday.

"Our counter-terrorism professionals are on the job and the president's not going to change his schedule and there's no cause for Americans to change their schedule," said White House spokesman Robert Gibbs, who promised updates to the public over the weekend.

U.S. officials said they were increasingly confident that the packages were part of a plot by Yemen's al-Qaida branch, the same group responsible for an attempted bombing of a U.S.-bound airliner last Christmas.

The Associated Press quoted U.S. officials as saying the packages contained the same explosive as the attempted Christmas attack.

Intelligence officials have been monitoring the suspected plot for days, an official said. The packages were discovered in England and Dubai late Thursday after a foreign intelligence service picked up information related to Yemen and passed it on to the U.S., one official said.

John Brennan, assistant to the president for homeland security and counter-terrorism, told reporters the packages seized in Dubai and England were both addressed to synagogues in Chicago.

Synagogues, as well as other religious institutions in Chicago were told to be on alert.

"All churches, synagogues and mosques in the Chicago area should be vigilant for any unsolicited or unexpected packages, especially those originating from overseas locations," the FBI said.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Chicago said it advised synagogues to be on alert after receiving a warning this morning from "authorities."

"We were told that synagogues should be on the alert," the spokeswoman said, adding that the federation was "taking appropriate precautions" and was "advising our local synagogues to do likewise."

She declined to comment on the nature of the threat or what precautions were necessary.

Chicago police said they were making checks in areas with many synagogues, such as the West Rogers Park neighborhood.

Rabbi Michael Balinsky, executive vice president of the Chicago Board of Rabbis, said he expected Friday or Saturday Sabbath services would go on as usual despite the warning.

"The community will be very careful. Beyond that, people will be on alert as far as any suspicious packages," he said. "People know about it. Services will go on as normal, with normal security measures."

Rabbi Michael Siegel, whose Anshe Emet synagogue in Lakeview has a membership of 1,200 households and a day school of more than 500 children, said the congregation will not be accepting UPS packages until "we know the danger has passed."

Since the 9/11 attacks, Siegel said the synagogue has improved security, including arranging for off-duty police officers to monitor the entrance of the building. He said he doesn't want the latest incident to disrupt the congregation's normal practices.

"The last thing we want to do is give in to terrorism on any level," Siegel said.

Rabbi Doug Zelden of the Or Menorah congregation in West Rogers Park said the threat will likely be a topic among its members during Sabbath services tonight and Saturday.

Zelden's congregation is one of three housed within Temple Menorah, which had two of its windows smashed and the canvas panels of a sukkah -- a temporary hut used for prayers and celebration of Sukkot -- in September.

He urged his members to be "comfortably cautious," adding, "Watch for suspicious things always."

Rabbi Asher Lopatin from the congregation Anshe Sholom B'nai Israel in Lakeview said his synagogue hadn't received specific threats. Although he reminded people to be vigilant, he doesn't want these threats to "take away from the religious experience."

"This will only add to our commitment to our Jewish values and our American values," said Lopatin, whose congregation has a membership of 350 households. "Every time they try to scare us it just makes us better people, stronger."

The package that first sparked alarm had white powder all over it as well as wires and a circuit card attached, a law enforcement source said. It came from Sana, Yemen and was bound for Chicago, a source told CNN.

It was discovered during a basic security screening process in the United Kingdom, a U.S. government official told the Associated Press.

Officials discovered a toner cartridge that had been "manipulated" and found wires attached to it and white powder. The second package was found in Dubai, according to an official United Arab Emirates security source.

Obama was notified of the potential threat at 10:30 p.m. Thursday and "directed U.S. intelligence and law enforcement agencies, and the Department of Homeland Security, to take steps to ensure the safety and security of the American people, and to determine whether these threats are a part of any additional terrorist plotting," a White House statement said.

Concerns about the possibility of similar and potentially dangerous devices shipped elsewhere prompted officials to check other cargo planes headed to the U.S.

In a statement, TSA said it was aware of and monitoring reports of potentially suspicious items onboard cargo flights that landed safely at Newark Liberty and Philadelphia International airports. "Out of an abundance of caution the planes were moved to a remote location where they are being met by law enforcement officials and swept," the statement said.

The Philadelphia jet belongs to United Parcel Service. A source with knowledge of the situation who was not authorized to speak said officials New York were examining a UPS package.

In New York City, police responded to reports of a possible explosive in a UPS truck at the Queensboro Bridge, top NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said. Browne said the package was removed and was being examined in Brooklyn.

Atlanta-based United Parcel Service Inc. said it was working closely with authorities.

Arching Your Eyebrows Correctly & Should men do it?

I been getting my eyebrows arched since I was 15 years old. When I turned 17 I went to college and didn't have a car my first semester which meant getting to someone who could arch my eye brows was impossible. So I taught myself how to do it. After seeing this video I now see I was doing it WRONG. There has been another issue bothering me. Since when has it ever been okay for men to arch their eyebrows. I know there is not official rules that say men can't do it, but I'm not one who want my man shaping or arching his eye brows. Yuk!

Roy Jones vs Evander? Awe naw

By Terence Dooley

News that Roy Jones is angling for a fight with Evander Holyfield has followed hot on the heels of rumours that Reading's Michael Sprott is in the running for a contest against either of the two American legends. Indeed, BoxingScene.com has confirmed that talks are ongoing between Sprott's management and the representatives of Jones, who was in the UK recently for a speaking tour, with a March date possible should Roy fail to land a fight with Holyfield.

Sprott recently won the Prizefighter: The Heavyweights tournament, defeating former foe Matt Skelton by split-decision to land the crown. Michael, 35-15 (17), had lost his two previous fights with Skelton – by twelth-round TKO in 2004 and majority-decision in 2007 – but has now had the last word in their trilogy.

A Jones fight, though unlikely on paper, would present Sprott with a big opportunity, the American has seen better days yet he is still a massive name; the 35-year-old British heavyweight feels that a fight against the former WBA heavyweight title-holder would be a memorable occasion.

“Things are OK,” said Sprott when speaking to BoxingScene.com over the phone. “I'm just waiting on news of what is next to come. I want to try for the fight with Roy Jones Junior, definitely, and they are saying it could be on for March. It is early days yet so we are just going to wait and see.

“It is great, a honour, because I'm mixing my name with the legends. It would be great if Roy came back to the division and it is wonderful having my name linked with him and Holyfield, who in my mind won the Valuev fight and should be a five-time heavyweight champion right now. Either of them would be a great name to have on my record.”

Critics will question the validity of any kind of a win over Jones in light of the Floridian's erratic recent form. Sprott, though, believes that Jones's name is still sprinkled with stardust; he also applauds Roy's desire, and right, to continue plying his trade.

“I can understand where they are coming from,” said Sprott when reminded that many people are calling for Roy to retire. “But if your heart and determination is there then you can bounce back from anything. People were saying Holyfield should have retired then, to me, he came back to beat [Nikolai] Valuev [Writer’s note: Although the judges gave it to the giant Russian] so anything is possible, especially when you've got heart. You can't listen to other people, you've got to be positive in yourself.

“Beating Roy would feel great. I think I would stop him in the middle or later rounds. People say Roy's not a full-blown heavyweight but he's a big name. Once I catch him with my left hook it will end the fight. It would be there on record that I was the man who ended his great career. So I would love to be the last man to be beat him.”

Still, a Sprott-Jones fight seems a somewhat surreal prospect. However, Michael reminded me that he has been written off himself in the past, no one envisaged him defeating Danny Williams for the British heavyweight title in 2004; his message, 'write me off at your peril'. As for the fight itself, stranger things have happened, most notably Williams versus Mike Tyson back in 2004. Jones, 41, is notoriously cautious and may yet talk himself out of a potential fight with Holyfield; he may see a contest against Sprott as a chance to fill a big venue here in the UK. Time will tell.

Rand Paul (Thug Politician) Stomps Lady In Head Then Wants Apology

Oh no, another Rand Paul scandal involving a lady and Aqua Buddha! This just seems careless: A woman from MoveOn approached Rand Paul before a debate and tried to give him a piece of paper, which symbolized Rand Paul’s cronyism or something. (Or maybe she wanted an autograph?) It doesn’t even matter, because Rand Paul’s loyal band of Aqua Buddhist monks surrounded this lady, threw her on the ground and stomped on her head. That’s not how you treat a lady! Aqua Buddha taught his disciples that ladies should always be tied up, dragged into the woods and then forced to smoke “the weed.” Aqua Buddha does not like it when his followers Square Dance on human heads. That is not what He teaches. Oh well. Let’s watch the video and then pretend to be surprised!

According to the Louisville Courier Journal, “Lauren Valle of MoveOn.org approached Paul and tried to give him an “employee of the month award” from Republicorp…a fake business MoveOn created to symbolize what it says is the merger of the GOP and business interests controlling political speech.”

I Love Lebron New Commercial

Well, not quite, but LeBron is beginning to make moves that will make us all love him again.

LeBron’s new Nike commercial, What Should I Do?, is a brilliant p.r. move that represents the first wave of remaking LeBron James into the most popular athlete in the country. Who else could possibly fill the void vacated by Tiger Woods?

Nike has hundreds of millions of dollars invested in LeBron, and stands to make hundreds of millions, if not billions, from LeBron. Naturally, this makes restoring LeBron James’s popularity of the utmost priority for Nike.

What Should I Do? conjures up images that remind me of The LeBrons commercials. These commercials featured the fun LeBron we unanimously loved.

As his prowess on the court grew, and his "Chosen One" title was legitimized, his popularity grew. I routinely was astonished by LeBron’s performance on the court.

I was not the only one amazed by LeBron’s performance. With time expiring on LeBron’s contract, millions of fans across the country began to obsess with the idea of LeBron James playing for their team.

This factor alone meant that, no matter who LeBron decided to play for in The Decision, millions of people would be angry. The immense interest in who LeBron James was going to sign with necessitated a bigger announcement than is atypical for other free agents.

This is where LeBron messed up.

He listened to his friends, but they are his friends. He is supposed to listen to them.

The Decision was in poor taste. While it raised significant amounts of money for The Boys and Girl’s Club of America, there were much better ways this announcement should have been handled.

For starters, ESPN, should never have been given exclusive rights to this announcement. ESPN’s cinematic take on sports has done wonders for the way we watch sports, but their cinematic take on The Decision over-personalized things.

This resulted in The Decision coming across as “Fxck You Cleveland,” when really it was just “Fxck You Dan Gilbert.” Dan Gilbert’s subsequent memo illustrated how he viewed the king, as nothing more than a commodity.

At the end of the day, Gilbert is the one with the most yolk on his face. Through an utter inability to make any useful personnel moves, Gilbert squandered away the best basketball player of our generation, and he is left with an awful basketball team, in an economically-depressed city.

LeBron James going to Miami will work out well for him, because in Miami, he has something he never had in Cleveland: Two players capable of creating their own shot. Bosh and Wade are not only capable of this, but exceptional at this.

LeBron James should have held a press conference at the Boy’s and Girl’s Club of America, and spent 15 minutes or more answering questions from Cleveland reporters, before he took any questions from reporters based elsewhere.

When properly coached, LeBron James’s charisma would have shone through. While Cleveland would still be furious at him, the rest of America would have been indifferent.

Following The Decision, like much of the country, I was furious at LeBron. My anger did not stem from LeBron’s choice of venue for The Decision, but rather his decision not to come play for my Chicago Bulls.

Everyone in Chicago was angry at LeBron, because we all wanted him to play for our team. This sentiment was mirrored across the country, as basketball fans harbored ludicrous hoop dreams that LeBron would somehow come and play for their team.

These feelings were exacerbated in Cleveland, by LeBron’s perceived national snubbing and abandonment of his home team. LeBron James will not restore his image in Cleveland

Until following his acquirement of a few rings, he convinces some buddies to come and play with him in Cleveland.

When LeBron James’s next contract ends, Kevin Durant will be ringless in Oklahoma City, and be beginning to worry about his legacy. Hopefully for Cleveland, Durant will trade one crappy city for the other, and head to the rust belt.

That would really be the ultimate legacy for LeBron, and would embrace the edgier side he bore for us in The Decision.

The only thing I will never understand about the whole way The Decision went down was how nobody in LeBron’s camp recognized how much better The Decision would have been if it was a press conference broadcasted live on virtually every network.

With a lockout looming, basketball players will need all the p.r. help they can get. That is why I am offering my services.

I am much cheaper than whoever you are paying now, and I cannot do any worse than LeBron’s people.

Now all that is left for LeBron is winning. With a ring, he will officially be back.

WTH is Cholera

Cholera is a serious infectious disease caused by the bacteria Vibrio cholerae, which affects the intestinal system of the body. An infected person experiences severe vomiting, explosive diarrhea and severe dehydration. Without immediate medical treatment, cholera may result in death within four to twelve hours after symptoms begin. Due to a large loss of body fluids, cholera is gruesome in the way that it leaves survivors in their physical appearance, as well as in the biological toll it takes on the body.

Cholera is very contagious. It is spread by the unintentional consumption of infected feces that contaminate food and water. It can also be spread through human to human contact. Some people have been infected with cholera by eating raw or undercooked shellfish.

Should the Down Syndrome Girl Win Homecoming Queen

So I'm very ready for the back lash of my opinions however its whatever. Am I the only person who isn't for celebrating or allowing passes for kids with down syndrome. Seriously, they are winning homecoming courts, getting good jobs, movie roles, etc. This is not because they deserve it, its because we have turned into a society where we do things to make ourselves feel better. I wonder how many kids slept easy because they voted for the down syndrome girl and not the popular girl who actually is good all the way around. Im sorry, I have never been one for awarding people off emotions. Earn your win fair and square.

Dang Can Haiti Catch a Break....Outbreak?

Aid Groups Race to Stop Haiti Cholera Outbreak

Russ Jones

Christian Press

October 25, 2010

Just days after the devastating earthquake in January, most doctors I talked to in Haiti were already worried about the nation's drinking water. They told me access to clean water sources would dramatically impact the recovery. Now, for doctors like Tom Schott, the outbreak of cholera 60 miles north of Port-au-Prince has proved those concerns true.

"I'm not surprised about the outbreak," said Schott, an Irving, Tex.-based physician who volunteered at Mission of Hope Clinic following the earthquake. "I actually thought it would have happened sooner than now. It tells me that organizations have been doing a good job in prevention."

The rise of a deadly waterborne disease in St. Marc was only a matter of time, he says, given the lack of shelter and good hygiene. Schott says it is critical Haitians understand how they might contaminate their own water supply.

"People are defecating in the same water they are drinking and bathing in," said Schott. "I would expect something like cholera to breakout. There is only so much organizations can do until the behaviors of the people catch up with them."

Cholera has been virtually unheard of in Haiti since 1960. Nonetheless, the recent outbreak has already infected over 3,000 people and killed 250 more. Aid agencies predict the disaster will be far greater if reaches the heavily populated capital city.

The Start of an Epidemic

While it is not clear what caused the outbreak, most humanitarian aid experts are reluctant to connect the outbreak with the earthquake. Most agree, however, for cholera to exist, bad hygiene and sanitation have to simultaneously occur with people carrying the Vibrio Cholerae bacterium.

Epidemiologist Dr. Tom Wood, a director of program development for Samaritan's Purse and who is on the ground in Haiti, told Crosswalk.com the cholera outbreak could be linked to overpopulation in the rural central valley of Artibonite.

"There is a large displaced group of people who left Port-au-Prince after the earthquake and who now live in the epicenter of the outbreak," says Wood. "The water wasn't clean in the first place, but now this growth in population has made the contamination of the water supply worse."

Wood says flooding has pushed contamination into the Artibonite River. Samaritan's Purse teams of medical and emergency relief personnel are encouraging people who live on the river's banks - and depend on it for bathing and drinking - to boil the water before consumption.

"This cholera outbreak is moving quickly and the sick need care immediately," said Wood. "Right now our focus is to provide oral rehydration salts and IVs to the sick and prevent the disease from spreading with clean water and hygiene education."

Is it me or...

Are the republicans devoting their time to bringing down Obama or fixing the country's problem. I have not heard one republican speak about their plans on fixing the economy. Everything has been about making sure Obama does not serve two term. What kind of person or group of people devote their campaigns on making sure there is not another black man in office. Who does that? What are their platform other than getting Obama out the white house. Trust me, we still want change. So far the only still talking about it and being about it is the democrats. So guess who has my vote Nov 2, 2010. Yep, still voting demonstrates.

Brett in the Dog House

NEW YORK — Brett Favre reportedly admitted leaving voicemails for the former New York Jets game hostess to whom a website says he also sent lewd photos.

Fox television's Jay Glazer reported Sunday that Favre told league investigators earlier this week he left phone messages for Jenn Sterger, who worked for the Jets in 2008 when Favre was their quarterback.

Fox did not say who provided the information. The NFL said it is not commenting on details of the investigation.

Glazer also reported that Favre denied sending Sterger inappropriate photos.

The NFL is investigating a Deadspin report earlier this month that Favre sent the racy photos to Sterger two years ago. Sterger, now an on-air personality for Versus, has not cooperated with the league yet, but her manager, Phil Reese, told The Associated Press on Sunday that could happen quickly.

"She is strongly considering it, leaning toward it," Reese said.

Asked if Favre admitted leaving the voicemails for Sterger, but denied sending any photos, Reese added:

"We're currently in the fact-gathering stage; all I'm doing is dealing with facts. Unfortunately the person in the pictures didn't also hold up their driver's license, so I'm not going to speculate as far as identity. But I'm working with people to diligently get all the facts."

Reese also has said that Sterger has had no discussions with Favre's representatives about a possible financial settlement stemming from the allegations.

Hiccup Girl in Jail...Who she kill?

'Hiccup girl' charged with murder in Florida

Jennifer Mee AP – An ct. 24, 2010 photo provided by the Pinellas County, Fla., Sheriff's Office shows Jennifer Mee, 19, …

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A teenage girl who became famous after hiccuping uncontrollably for weeks has been charged with luring a man to a house where he was robbed and fatally shot.

Jennifer Mee, 19, of St. Petersburg and two others are charged with first-degree murder in the death of Shannon Griffin, 22, on Saturday.

Mee's unusual condition landed her on NBC's "Today Show" in 2007 and got her a hug from country star Keith Urban.

But her life fell into disarray when the hiccups finally stopped five weeks after they started. She ran away from home twice and her family has sued a hiccup cure company for allegedly using her image for profit without permission.

"I've said for a while now, her case of the hiccups wasn't a case of the hiccups, it was a curse of the hiccups," Mee's mother, Rachel Robidoux, told the 93.3 WFLZ "MJ Morning Show" in Tampa on Monday. She said she did not know exactly what happened, but described the situation as a nightmare and said her daughter had not lived with her in a year.

Sgt. T.A. Skinner of the St. Petersburg Police Department said in a news release that Mee lured Griffin to a home where the others robbed him at gunpoint. Griffin struggled with the suspects and was shot several times, police said.

Skinner said Mee and the others admitted their involvement.

Police records show she lived in a three-story brick apartment building across from where Griffin was killed. Mee's neighbors — who did not want to be identified — said the people who lived in her second-floor apartment were often loud.

Mee's hiccups — up to 50 a minute — gained her notoriety in 2007. She tried home remedies and consulted medical specialists, a hypnotist and an acupuncturist, until the hiccups finally stopped on their own.

On her MySpace page, Mee describes herself as a "female version of a hustla" and adds that "her heart is still in Vermont," where her father lives. She last logged into her page Sunday.

She was being held without bond early Monday. Pinellas County jail records did not show whether she had an attorney. She is scheduled for a court appearance Monday afternoon at the Pinellas County Court in Clearwater.

Kanye's 'Banned' Album Cover

Kanye West revealed his proposed album cover that was, according to him, 'banned.' The cover is a caricature of what appears to be Kanye on a sofa with what looks like a mythological phoenix. Kanye tweeted about the cover, but didn't give any specifics as to who or what entity deemed the cover unusable.

"Yoooo they banned my album cover!!!!! Ima tweet it in a few...," the rapper said via his Twitter account on Sunday, before he actually posted the proposed cover. "Banned in the USA!!! They don't want me chilling on the couch with my phoenix!"

No Good Deed Goes Unrewarded 11months not 2yrs

30–year-old hip-hop star T.I. was sentenced to 11 months in prison on Friday, October, 15, because he violated terms of his supervised release, according to MTV.

The prosecution was supposed to send T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris Jr., back to prison for
href= http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2010/10/15/entertainment-us-rapper-ti-arrest_8017661.html>two years, but the rapper pleaded with the judge to lessen his punishment. The judge closed the courtroom after it filled up.

Last month’s incident provoked Friday’s hearing. In September, T.I. was arrested from a traffic stop in Los Angeles, where police found drugs on him and his wife, Tameka Cottle. Also at the time of the arrest, T.I. tested positive for opiates while also being in possession of Ecstasy.

After T.I. told the judge that he needed help with his drug addiction and begged to lessen his punishment, the judge gave him two weeks to turn himself in.

Youth Pastor Shot in the Middle of a Sermon

Texas youth pastor Eddie Contreras is in recovery after being shot in the hand and face in the middle of a sermon this week.

Texas youth pastor Eddie Contreras is in recovery after being shot in the hand and face in the middle of a sermon this week.

This story caught our attention just on the premise of the startling and oh so unfortunate headline.

A couple of weeks ago, the praises were going up in the sanctuary, but bullets are what came back down as a Texas youth leader, Pastor Eddie Contreras, was shot in the face and hand by a troubled young man. Josue Pablo, 20, reportedly entered the Walnut Park Assembly of God Church in Garland, TX and was yelling obscenities and calling members of the congregation fake.

The members mistook the disruptive scene as part of a skit, but the disruption turned detrimental in minutes when they saw him draw the gun, aim it and shoot it.

The bullet went through Contreras’ hand and hit him in the face. Pastor Contreras, thankfully, survived the random attack from the troubled young man who’s mother and sister also happened to be the ones who encouraged him to come to church to deal with the personal struggles he was experiencing.
